Frequently-Asked Questions

DPC stands for Direct Primary Care. It’s a practice model in which patients pay their family doctor’s office directly, rather than the doctor’s office billing the patient’s health insurance. The patients pay a set monthly or yearly rate for a specified set of services. Typically, DPCs also run a little differently than the stereotypical family practice. They often provide extra services to patients, such as house calls, longer visit times, 24/7 access to the doctor, and highly personalized care. We proudly offer all these features!

We chose to establish TriPoint Medical because we wanted to break the mold of rushed visits with doctors who are separated from you by a computer screen. To us, talking with you and getting to know you is our number 1 priority. We believe that if we keep that as number 1, everything else will fall into place. By following the direct primary care model and cutting out insurance, we greatly reduce the hurdles we have to jump over to do the one thing we love best – caring for YOU! And then as an added bonus, you get complete transparency in pricing.

If we were to sum it all up in one word, that word would be personalization. We get to know you personally so we can care for you personally in a way that’s completely unique to you and your situation and will help you achieve your personalized health goals. We’ve kissed goodbye to cookie-cutter healthcare; we’ve seen firsthand for too long that it doesn’t work. We’ve set up our practice so that we love coming to work every day, and we hope you’ll love coming to see us!

Yes, we do. We’re proud to serve people across the entire lifespan. That’s what makes us a family practice – we can care for your entire family!

Good news for you! By not charging insurance companies, we actually significantly cut down on our overhead. This savings is passed directly to you. If you would like to save even more money, you may choose to submit your after-visit summary/plan of care to your insurance to request a reimbursement (it’s called “post-care reimbursement”). Based on your health insurance plan and what services we provided to you at the visit, your insurance will decide how much to reimburse you. The only insurance providers to which you legally cannot submit a post-care reimbursement request are Medicare and Medicaid. If you would like to take advantage of post-care reimbursement, make sure you don’t trim your health insurance (see question below).

In some cases, yes! If you would like to eliminate primary care coverage from your health insurance premium, we recommend you start by calling your insurance company. Every insurance company does things a little differently and every plan is a little different. Thus, calling your insurance company and asking a lot of questions can help clarify your options specifically pertaining to your own health insurance plan. Some insurance companies allow you to “trim” or “customize” your health insurance, allowing you to pay only for medication, imaging, specialist, and catastrophic coverage. If you choose to trim your insurance, you would be unable to request post-care reimbursement from your health insurance for your primary care (see answer to question above).

Either your doctor or your nurse will answer the phone. This ensures that someone who is familiar with your care will be on the other end of the line and will either be able to help you or direct you quickly to someone who can.

We are here to care for your health to the fullest extent possible, regardless of where you are. If you’re out of town and need help, give us a ring or shoot us a text. We’ll provide you with care from afar or direct you to where you can seek local in-person care if necessary.

Certainly! That’s the beauty of our model. You won’t be calling an after-hours answering service who gets you in touch with an on-call doctor who may not personally know you or your medical history. You have direct access to your personal family doctor for urgent medical issues 24/7/365. That’s our promise to you! (Of course, barring power outages, cellular service lapses, downed internet, or other unfortunate technological lapses.)

Yes, please! Creating a chart provides us with your medical history so that we can care for you more thoroughly. When you create a chart, please skip the section that includes payment information; we’ll collect that during your visit. When you’re on the phone to schedule your appointment, just let us know you’re only interested in alternative medicine so that we can schedule appropriately.
